FBR notification on electronic invoice
BUSINESS RECORDER • • 1 min read

According to Business Recorder, the Federal Board of Revenue has instructed businesses that electronic invoices must carry the details demanded by two separate statutes. The instruction appeared in a notification the FBR issued on Thursday, and it applies wherever Federal Excise Duty is levied on goods or services. A single electronic invoice will suffice when sales tax, excise duty and services tax all fall on the same transaction, provided each levy is shown separately.
Businesses already integrated with the FBR's computerised system under this procedure will not need a separate technical integration just because they face liability under the Federal Excise Act, 2005 or the Islamabad Capital Territory services tax ordinance. The FBR made this point separately in the notification. The notification therefore keeps the requirement focused on what each invoice must show.
At a glance
- FBR says e-invoices must carry particulars under the Federal Excise Act, 2005 and ICT services tax law.
- A single invoice suffices when sales tax, Federal Excise Duty and services tax apply to one transaction.
- Integrated taxpayers need no separate technical integration because of these levies alone.
