Google unveils ‘Argon’ AI model to rival OpenAI, Anthropic
Profit by Pakistan Today • • 1 min read

Google has introduced Argon, a new top-tier artificial intelligence model that will anchor its Gemini 4 generation, as it tries to narrow the gap with OpenAI and Anthropic. A company spokesperson said on Wednesday that the model is larger than Google's earlier Pro-tier models. Profit by Pakistan Today reported that Google considers Argon its strongest offering for demanding workloads.
Google said Argon matched OpenAI's Astra and Anthropic's Opus in major coding and cybersecurity tests. Its own results placed the model ahead of rivals on several industry tests, though it lagged on some measures, including two of four coding benchmarks. Access is limited to selected cybersecurity partners and to a voluntary pre-release process run by the Trump administration, and no public launch date has been set.
Google also confirmed it has dropped plans to release Gemini 3.5 Pro, which Chief Executive Sundar Pichai had earlier forecast for June. The decision follows months of delays, a leadership overhaul at Google DeepMind in which Demis Hassabis stepped aside, and the departure of several Gemini executives. Meanwhile, OpenAI and Anthropic kept releasing newer versions of their most advanced models.
