Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has committed Rs160bn in federal funding for development work in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mettis Global reported on October 23. He also said the Centre would provide wheat in quantities suited to the province’s needs and require it to be sold at the federal supply price, while warning against stockpiling.
At a Peshawar meeting with representatives from the tribal districts, Sharif promised support for police capacity, counter-terrorism efforts and completion of Safe City projects. He said federal projects should move forward without delay and called for transparent use of public money, citing alleged irregularities involving a Rs100bn water scheme and Rs37bn fraud in Kohistan.
