Indian shares snap losing run as investors assess earnings

Indian equities ended a four-session decline on Monday, with the Nifty 50 up 0.68% at 22,753.2 and the Sensex gaining 0.66% to 73,606.75. Both indexes had been down about 0.9% earlier in the session, before earnings-related gains in major constituents helped turn trading around.

Business Recorder reported that 15 of 16 major sectors advanced, while small-cap and mid-cap shares rose 1.4% and 1.2%. JSW Steel climbed 6.3% after quarterly profit tripled, and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories added 6.6% after beating profit estimates. Gains were limited by inflation concerns as Brent crude traded around $115 a barrel, while investors also awaited the Federal Reserve’s Wednesday policy decision and watched for evidence on a possible reduction in India’s 12.5% long-term capital gains tax.
