Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met senior executives of Barclays, J.P. Morgan, Citi, BlackRock and Rothschild & Co in London, according to Mettis Global. The talks covered investment, capital markets, trade finance and possible wider activity by international financial institutions in Pakistan. Sharif encouraged Barclays to explore openings in the financial sector and urged Citi to broaden its corporate and institutional banking offerings.
J.P. Morgan's delegation, led by its Europe, Middle East and Africa co-chief, pushed for closer ties covering trade finance and investment banking. It also signalled interest in Pakistan's sovereign debt and corporate banking business. BlackRock representatives weighed possible investment in Pakistani shares and fixed-income instruments under its frontier-markets approach, and the talks stressed that consistent policy supports investor trust. Rothschild & Co discussed advisory work with Pakistan on capital markets and investment strategy.
According to the report, the meetings form part of a wider government push to deepen links with global financial institutions and draw in foreign capital. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb and Privatization Commission chairman Muhammad Ali also attended the sessions. The discussions also addressed Pakistan's reform path, the investment climate and wider participation by international institutions in its financial markets.
