China seeks stronger security, governance to support modernization

According to Mettis Global, Chinese President Xi Jinping has asked for the Peaceful China Initiative to be taken to a higher level, placing emphasis on firmer national security and early risk prevention. In a recent instruction carried by Xinhua, he linked these steps to keeping the country's modernization drive on a steady course.
Xi said China had made significant headway on building a safe society since 2012, and he characterised the nation as among the most secure globally. He urged a comprehensive approach to security that keeps the Communist Party's overall leadership intact, while weighing growth against safety, tightening laws, applying science and technology, and reducing risks across sectors.
The instruction was conveyed at a working conference in Beijing on Monday, where 60 cities and 160 counties were named model areas and received honorary plaques. Citing Xinhua, Mettis Global also referred to the Global Public Security Index Report (2025-2026), which put China at the top with 84.62 points.
