Profit reported that the central bank's foreign currency holdings grew by $39 million, reaching $21.439 billion in the week ending September 25. The figures came from central bank data released on Thursday. The gain followed an earlier rise of $11 million, which had lifted these reserves to $21.400 billion.
Overall liquid reserves edged down, from $26.811 billion the previous week to $26.771 billion, despite the increase in SBP holdings. The breakdown placed commercial bank net holdings at $5.332 billion, which together with the SBP figure adds up to the total.
Taken together, the figures show that central bank holdings moved higher while the overall liquid reserve position eased over the period. The weekly change in total reserves works out to a decline of $40 million based on the two reported totals.
