PM sets indicative wheat price at Rs4,500 per maund for 2027
DAWN • • 1 min read

Dawn reported on Friday that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif set an indicative wheat procurement price of Rs4,500 per maund for 2027, Rs1,000 above last year’s level. The PM Office said higher production costs informed the increase, which was discussed with the chief ministers of Punjab and Sindh, with guidance from President Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif.
The proposed rate is Rs500 below the Rs5,000 per 40kg price sought by the Pakistan Kissan Ittehad, which has cited farmers’ inability to cover production costs. The government says the higher figure is intended to support growers and encourage sowing, while aiming to strengthen food security and local output. Sindh has separately approved releasing government wheat at Rs12,500 per 100kg bag from Oct 15 to support flour availability and prices.
