PRA steps up E-IMS enforcement
Business Recorder • • 1 min read

The Punjab Revenue Authority has stepped up its drive against firms breaching the Electronic Invoice Monitoring System. Notices have gone to over 70 hotels, restaurants and marquees across Punjab in the last two days, according to Business Recorder. Enforcement teams also fined several restaurants that kept ignoring E-IMS rules after being warned.
The system is meant to bring more transparency to commercial dealings and improve scrutiny of sales and tax payments. Businesses above the set sales threshold must generate receipts through it, and the authority digitally tracks their sales and tax records. Customers should receive computerised, verifiable receipts once they pay, the authority stressed.
Going forward, the authority says E-IMS will let it compare declared turnover in tax filings with actual tax collections to spot gaps. Firms that keep breaching the rules after notices face legal action, and a spokesperson said protecting consumers' tax is the top priority while heavy penalties hit fraudulent operators.
