The State Bank of Pakistan injected a combined Rs3.25 trillion into the banking system on October 2, 2026, using a reverse repo auction and a Shariah-compliant modaraba-based open market operation. Of that amount, Rs2.71 trillion came through the conventional reverse repo window, according to Mettis Global, which carried the central bank's release.
The conventional 7-day tenor accepted Rs240,050 million at 11.54 per cent, while the 14-day tenor took Rs2,475,000 million at 11.51 per cent. The Shariah-compliant side accepted Rs106,000 million for seven days at 11.56 per cent and Rs437,500 million for 14 days at 11.54 per cent, totalling Rs543.5 billion.
Open market operations are a liquidity tool through which SBP lends funds to banks and Primary Dealers against eligible collateral, such as Market Treasury Bills and Pakistan Investment Bonds. The central bank uses these injections when the system faces a liquidity shortage, so the operation directly affects the funding position of banks.
