Food chains evading taxes to face action

According to The Express Tribune, the Punjab Revenue Authority has decided to tighten its vigilance wing and add digital monitoring to stop tax evasion through digital payments and fake receipts. PRA Chairman Moazzam Iqbal Sipra said local and international food chains and coffee shops that refuse digital payments will face strict action. He added that digital payments should reach only the bank accounts that companies have formally disclosed, which would prevent record manipulation.

At a review session on enforcement squad results, the Lahore Division commissioner was instructed to scale up field work. The meeting also ordered that complaints lodged on social media be examined without delay, and notices have already gone to more than 70 restaurants over alleged violations.

Sipra also directed that receipts issued through E-IMS carry QR codes so buyers can verify them instantly. He stressed that openly depositing tax money gathered from citizens is both a legal and moral duty.
