A tanker carrying 40,000 metric tons of Russian ultra-low-sulphur diesel is travelling to New York, with arrival expected on November 7, LSEG shipping data showed on Friday. The Malta-flagged Agioi Fanendes loaded the cargo at Primorsk on October 22, marking the first Russian petroleum-products shipment to the US since Joe Biden’s 2022 import ban.
The cargo follows an agreement announced by Donald Trump on October 9, under which Russia said it would send 300,000 metric tons to the US and global markets, with further volumes planned. The buyer and seller for this shipment have not been identified, while a Kremlin spokesperson confirmed that a first tanker had departed without specifying its destination. Russia also lifted its own diesel-export restriction, and officials have said shipments could return to 3-3.5 million tons per month by year-end.
