Gulf bourses slip as Houthi-Saudi clashes rattle investors

Business Recorder reported that most Gulf share markets opened lower on Sunday, as investors reacted to intensifying clashes between Yemen’s Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition. The declines covered Saudi Arabia and Qatar, with the report connecting investor unease to the conflict. It described losses in each market’s main index as well as in prominent listed companies.

Saudi Arabia’s benchmark index fell 1.1%, while shares in Saudi Aramco declined 1.2%. Qatar’s index slipped 0.3%, and Qatar National Bank, described as the Gulf’s largest lender, shed 1.1%. For investors, the report links the Gulf’s market performance to the regional security situation and records declines in major oil and banking names.

  • Saudi Arabia’s benchmark index declined 1.1% in early trade.
  • Qatar’s index eased 0.3% as Qatar National Bank shares fell 1.1%.
