SK Hynix to announce steps to boost shareholder returns on Wednesday

SK Hynix plans to outline shareholder-return options on Wednesday, alongside its third-quarter results, Business Recorder reported. The announcement follows a South Korean media report that the company is weighing a special dividend of roughly 16 trillion won, or $12 billion, using proceeds linked to its Kioxia investment. The chipmaker has not confirmed that figure, saying only that it is considering different ways to return value to shareholders.

Investors have pressed SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics to distribute more cash after strong AI-memory demand drove record profits. SK Hynix had previously pledged a 40 trillion won share buyback and cancellation, and to direct over half of free cash flow earned from 2025 through 2027 toward shareholder returns. Its shares gained 0.5% on Monday while the broader market fell 1.3%; the company also recently put a planned US listing of its Solidigm unit on hold.
