Govt moves to merge Privatisation Commission, P3A into single authority
Profit by Pakistan Today • • 1 min read

A bill before the National Assembly would combine the Privatisation Commission and Public-Private Partnership Authority under a proposed body called the Privatisation and Public-Private Partnership Commission. Profit by Pakistan Today reported that the plan would amend the 2000 ordinance governing privatisation and repeal the 2017 law that created P3A. The new commission would be led by current chairman Muhammad Ali, with a board that includes independent members, private-sector representatives, PPP specialists and at least two women.
The proposed body would assess and monitor PPP ventures, maintain a federal project pipeline and oversee approvals and risk management. It would also manage four continuing funds, backed by sources including federal allocations, international lenders and investment income. Existing P3A contracts would move to the commission, while staff and consultants would remain there for no longer than six months or the end of their current agreements, whichever arrives first. The bill also provides legal protections for officials acting in good faith and limits state exposure to risks not written into PPP agreements.
