Pakistan’s shrimp farming plan set to make a big catch
Mettis Global • • 1 min read

Pakistan has given officials 120 days to draft a plan for expanding shrimp cultivation, improving processing and value addition, and lifting exports. Mettis Global reported that this work sits within a wider 24-month programme for implementation and review. A prime ministerial sub-committee has approved seven technical groups and a costing unit, which are to produce 14 reports and export estimates.
The participating federal and provincial bodies will use a shared method to verify data, map problems across the industry and develop reform proposals. The committee is also preparing a sector report, while an initial 14-day task schedule has been approved. Punjab officials cited value-chain development and hatcheries as priorities, while Sindh is preparing a feasibility study for a proposed 3,500-acre shrimp farm and highlighted value addition and traceability challenges.
