IMC flags misuse of used car import scheme
The Express Tribune • • 1 min read

Indus Motor Company (IMC) warned that misuse of the used-car gift import scheme and uncertainty over automotive policy are pressuring local manufacturing and investment, The Express Tribune reported. CEO Ali Asghar Jamali said imports were diverting activity from domestic producers, with consequences for jobs, localisation and government revenue. IMC called for stronger enforcement, consistent policy, revised duties and taxes, improved auto financing and export incentives.
The warning came alongside stronger first-quarter results for July-September 2026: IMC sold 13,380 vehicles, up 34% year on year, and reported net sales of Rs74.015 billion and profit after tax of Rs7.384 billion. Earnings per share were Rs93.95, and the board declared an interim dividend of Rs56 per share. Across the industry, locally assembled passenger car and light commercial vehicle sales rose 19.4% to 50,480 units, while the sector operated at an estimated 45% of installed capacity.
