QatarEnergy secures 20-year US LNG supply from Woodside amid Hormuz blockade

Woodside Energy will supply QatarEnergy with liquefied natural gas from its Louisiana export project under a 20-year agreement, Business Recorder reported on Thursday. Deliveries are due to begin in 2030, starting with output from Train 2 and rising to 3 million metric tons a year when Train 3 starts up.

The agreement gives QatarEnergy a source beyond the Gulf as conflict and damage disrupt production, while helping Woodside secure buyers for a project with limited long-term commitments. Woodside is targeting its first LNG output in 2029 from the 16.5 million-tonne-a-year facility, which represents a $17.5 billion investment. QatarEnergy has also told some customers that deliveries will not resume until the end of this year, according to Edison and market sources.

At a glance

  • Woodside and QatarEnergy signed a 20-year Louisiana LNG supply agreement.
  • Annual volumes are scheduled to reach 3 million metric tons from Train 3.
