Asia rice: Indian rice prices firm, Vietnam rates climb to near two-year highs
Business Recorder • • 1 min read

Business Recorder reported that Vietnamese 5% broken rice rose to $470-$480 per metric ton on Thursday, from $440-$450 a week earlier. Traders cited limited local availability and said the next autumn-winter crop is not expected before late November, with projected output around half the summer-autumn harvest.
Indian export quotations were largely unchanged, with parboiled rice at $387-$392 per ton and white rice at $389-$394. New-season paddy arrivals are building in northern India, while broader supply from central and southern areas is expected from next month. Thai rice held at $480 per ton; traders pointed to exchange rates, firm domestic prices and flood-related supply uncertainty. In Bangladesh, rice remained costly despite ample stocks, with higher oil prices adding to production and transport expenses.
