Dawn • • 1 min read

Pakistan International Airlines’ first Boeing 787-9 reached Islamabad from London on Sunday, operating as PK786, after being taken on lease last month. Dawn reported that PIA is the first airline in Pakistan to add this aircraft model to its fleet. Chief Executive Aamir Hayat and other airline officials received the plane at Islamabad airport.
The aircraft is one of two 787-9s covered by an ACMI lease agreement PIA signed with Norse Atlantic Airways. The airline says their arrival is intended to modernise its fleet and widen international connections, with the aircraft planned for direct long-haul services between Pakistan and the United Kingdom. The twin-engine jet can seat up to 325 people; PIA’s existing fleet includes 12 Boeing 777s, 15 Airbus A320s and five ATR aircraft.
