Karachi Port Trust handles ships with 101,000 tonnes of cargo

Karachi Port Trust (KPT) unloaded two foreign vessels at the same time, handling a total of 101,000 tonnes of cargo, Dawn reported on November 2. One ship brought 50,000 tonnes of diammonium phosphate fertiliser, while the other carried 51,000 tonnes of wheat; both berthed at Karachi Gateway Terminal Multipurpose.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the operation demonstrated KPT’s ability to manage important agricultural and food supplies. He credited port staff and workers with keeping discharge operations moving, while KPT Chairman Shahid Ahmed said the ships received priority berthing under government instructions. The ministry is pursuing reforms intended to shorten vessel turnaround times and improve port management and infrastructure.

The cargo included fertiliser for agriculture and wheat for food supply, making the port operation relevant to the movement of essential imports. The minister said reliable handling and logistics support the timely transport of these goods and the wider supply chain.
