Business Recorder • • 1 min read

HBL Chairman Sultan Ali Allana has taken over leadership of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Interbank Consortium for the 2026-27 term, Business Recorder reported. Pakistan holds the consortium chairmanship during the same period as its leadership of the SCO, while the Ministry of Finance congratulated Allana and reiterated support for closer economic ties among member states.
The consortium brings together financial institutions from SCO countries and works to support regional trade, investment and cooperation with multilateral organisations. HBL joined as a partner bank in 2014 and became a member in 2018; its nomination to lead the consortium council was made at a meeting in Bishkek on July 2, 2026. The development gives HBL a leadership role in a regional banking forum, while the source does not report any financial terms or business commitments.
