According to Mettis Link News, a consignment of 21 rescue and firefighting vehicles from China has arrived at Karachi Port, ending a 17-year break in such deliveries. The equipment reached the port during a visit by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who was briefed on the shipment there. The vehicles are due to travel on to Islamabad within about five days.
Once in the capital, the fleet will be spread across six stations and run around the clock. The shipment is made up of 4 aerial fire trucks, 6 fire towers and 5 fire tenders, all suited to current rescue and firefighting tasks. The units can work at elevations as high as 256 feet. Naqvi called it the biggest boost to the Islamabad Rescue fleet since 2009 and credited China for speeding up the delivery.
The upgrade is expected to strengthen capacity for work at high-rise structures and other intricate emergencies. Officials from Customs, the Capital Development Authority, the Islamabad administration and the National Logistics Corporation attended the inspection at the port.
