Gold flat on firm dollar
METTIS GLOBAL • • 1 min read

Gold prices barely moved on Thursday while traders waited for the US jobs data, which may guide the Federal Reserve's next rate decision, Mettis Global reported. At 11:44 am PST, spot gold stood 0.27% higher at $4,183.9 an ounce. Friday brings the release of September's nonfarm payrolls figures.
A firmer greenback, supported by rising Treasury yields, is making the metal pricier for buyers using other currencies, according to CNBC. Wednesday's inflation report indicated August consumer prices increased more slowly than projected, while earlier price pressures were revised down. Gold edged up briefly after that release but finished lower, and softer inflation trimmed bets on an October rate increase, though traders still see an 87% chance of a December hike. Rate increases weigh on bullion since it pays no interest, and spot gold fell more than 6% in September.
Silver rose 0.5% to $60.69, platinum added 0.1% to $1,708.43, and palladium dipped 0.3% to $1,200.15. Iran also confirmed receiving a response from Washington on its newest offer to restore the Gulf truce that had broken down, a reply that came after Donald Trump rejected that offer.
