Vietnam extends fuel tax relief measures until end-2026

Business Recorder, citing Reuters, reports that Vietnam will keep its fuel tax relief package in place until the close of 2026. The measures were first introduced in March to steady the domestic fuel market, which faced supply strain linked to the war in the Middle East, and they have been renewed several times since. A resolution signed on September 30 extends the lower import tariffs on motor spirit, diesel, fuel oil and jet fuel, along with key refinery inputs, to December 31.
The sharpest change lowers the preferential import duty on gasoline to 0%, down from 10%. Diesel, fuel oil, kerosene and jet fuel continue to carry 0% rather than 7%, while a number of petrochemical feedstocks have also been brought to zero. Environmental protection tax and value-added tax on gasoline and petroleum products will likewise stay at zero through year-end 2026, as the government outlined in its Thursday statement.
