Asia rice: Indian rice export prices rise to over one-year high on firm demand, production concerns
Business Recorder • • 1 min read

Indian rice export prices climbed to a level not seen in over a year this week, according to Business Recorder, as firmer demand and worries over output after floods in rice-growing areas, following a dry spell, lifted sentiment. The parboiled 5% broken grade from India was priced between $378 and $384 a ton, its best showing since July 2025, up from $375 to $381 a week before. Indian white 5% broken grade traded between $377 and $382 a ton.
A Mumbai-based trader said crop conditions were deteriorating, which was lifting paddy costs and pushing exporters to raise their asking rates. Industry officials told Reuters that India's rice output is expected to contract this year, which would mark the first decline in ten years and the largest in nearly 20 years, because below-normal rainfall during crop maturation risks reducing yields.
Thailand's 5% broken rice stayed at $460 per ton, while Vietnam's version was offered at $420 to $430 per metric ton, down from $430 a week earlier. State media, citing an agriculture ministry projection, said Vietnam's rice shipments during the opening nine months of the year could slip 6.1% to 6.4 million tons, with export earnings falling 10.9% to $3.1 billion. Farmers in Bangladesh said rice prices there may climb further after a recent oil price increase, since costlier fuel raises expenses for irrigation and transport.
