Pakistan Refinery Limited (PRL) says Tariq Kirmani has resigned as its chairman and a board director, effective from October 9, 2026. Business Recorder reported that the refinery disclosed the move to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) in a filing made on Monday. The company cited health reasons, and Kirmani had sat on the board as an independent director.
According to PRL's website, Kirmani has more than five decades of corporate experience at home and abroad. He began in 1969 at Caltex, later Chevron Pakistan, after finishing his MBA, and spent seven years in senior management roles in the United States, the UAE and Australia. Back in 1991 he earned the distinction of being the first Pakistani elected to a company board, and he later joined PSO in 1999 before taking over as managing director and chief executive in 2001. In 2005 the government appointed him chairman and CEO of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), a post he held for two years.
