The advance came after the State Bank of Pakistan raised its policy rate by 50 basis points to 12%, while lower international oil prices and hopes for progress towards resolving the US-Israeli war on Iran also shaped market sentiment.
At 12:54pm, the index stood at 164,068.67 points, up 1,030.21 points, or 0.63%. It also touched an intraday low of 163,545.69 points. Traded volume reached 63.83 million shares, with turnover of Rs4.96 billion.
Buying interest included cement, commercial banks, oil and gas exploration companies and oil marketing companies. One account of the session also identified automobile assemblers and parts makers, fertilisers, insurers, pharmaceutical companies and apparel among the sectors drawing buying.
Brent crude was down 0.86% at $114.81 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate fell 0.86% to $100.88. Hopes for a diplomatic resolution eased immediate concerns about supply disruptions, while renewed Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia kept geopolitical risks in focus.
