Govt eyes easier export financing for SMEs

The government is considering ways to widen export-financing access and lower operating costs for small and medium-sized enterprises, Mettis Global reported on October 29, 2026. The proposals were discussed at a Finance Division meeting chaired by Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, where SME exporters described financing, regulatory and operational obstacles.

Discussion covered clearer Export Finance Scheme application procedures, stronger export credit insurance, risk-sharing options and possible improvements to the Export Facilitation Scheme. Participants also raised taxation and compliance costs, certification requirements, freight and shipping expenses, and access to machinery and overseas markets. Kayani asked officials to consult exporters and chambers, record concerns and set up a mechanism to track responsibilities and timelines; institutions are to review financing, regulatory and market-access barriers.
