Pakistan’s new National Wheat Policy sets a target of holding up to six million tonnes in strategic wheat stocks and puts the support rate at Rs4,500 per maund, Mettis Global reported on November 3. Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain announced the measures at a Fatima Fertilizer event honouring farmers, where he also praised a reported yield of 70 maunds per acre.
The minister attributed better output to quality seed, balanced fertilizer use and modern farming methods, and said improved productivity could strengthen food security and create scope for exports. He also outlined priorities including lower production costs, better farm incomes, agricultural financing, and recently approved seed and biotechnology policies. Fatima Fertilizer was commended for farmer training and promoting balanced fertilizer use.
