FBR urged to extend income tax return filing deadline
Business Recorder • • 1 min read

The Pakistan Chemicals & Dyes Merchants Association has asked the Federal Board of Revenue to push back by one month the due date for income tax returns covering the period that closes on September 30, 2026. According to Business Recorder, the association blamed ongoing glitches and instability on the IRIS portal for its request. Salim Valimuhammad, the association's chairman, sent the appeal in a letter to FBR Chairman Rashid Mehmood Langrial.
Valimuhammad said tax practitioners and taxpayers have struggled to file returns on time because the portal keeps malfunctioning. He said the problem had been raised repeatedly with the PRAL team through individual complaints and joint representations, yet the system has reportedly failed to function properly for over a week. He added that requests for remedial steps have not yet resolved the issues, causing considerable hardship for the tax community.
The letter asks the FBR to extend the due date to October 30, 2026, so taxpayers and practitioners can meet their legal duties without facing excessive strain. Valimuhammad thanked the FBR for looking into the matter and said he hoped the relief would be approved.
