Students across country to get 500,000 Chromebooks over 2 years, announces PM Shehbaz
Dawn • • 1 min read

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Sunday that 500,000 Chromebook laptops are to be provided to students across Pakistan during the next two years. Dawn reported that he made the announcement at the launch of the Prime Minister’s Youth Chromebook Scheme in Islamabad, describing access to technology as a responsibility of the state.
The devices are intended to support students’ education, including remote learning, and will be allocated according to students’ ability, the prime minister said. He also said students at religious seminaries could participate, alongside those at colleges and universities. Shehbaz contrasted the new target with 600,000 laptops distributed by previous PML-N governments over a decade, while the report noted an earlier pledge to provide 250,000 Chromebooks to high-achieving students this year.
