Sindh High Court suspends Nepra orders on K-Electric tariff review
Dawn • • 1 min read

The Sindh High Court has suspended notifications and orders issued by the appellate tribunal of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority, or Nepra, that had re-examined the multi-year tariff of K-Electric, Dawn reported. A single-judge bench led by Justice Mohammad Abdur Rahman also issued notices to the Power Division, Nepra and the deputy attorney general, with Oct 15 specified in the notices.
K-Electric approached the court to challenge appellate tribunal judgements handed down in September of this year and in October 2025, which dealt with its appeals against Nepra's October 2025 review determinations. Its counsel, Ayan Memon, argued that the tariff set by Nepra covers seven years, from 2024 to 2030, spanning generation, distribution and transmission.
Memon also said the full cost of the subsidy paid to the utility had been shifted back onto it, with the cost then passed to consumers through fuel adjustment. He further argued that Nepra could only review its earlier decisions, not re-determine them, and that setting tariffs on criteria devised by the regulator and tribunal exceeded their jurisdiction. He also described the fresh determinations as contrary to a Supreme Court judgement.
