Business Recorder • • 1 min read

The Pakistan Maritime Security Agency has formally commended Cnergyico Pakistan Limited for its quick and efficient handling of an oil spill near Churna Island, according to Business Recorder. The praise came in an official letter dated October 14, 2026, which addressed an incident first reported on June 30, 2026, close to offshore SPM installations of CPHGC and CPL. Bilge discharge from a passing seagoing vessel, which remains unidentified, is cited as the reported cause.
Cnergyico mobilised its dedicated Oil Spill Response Team, together with response vessels, equipment, oil dispersants and trained staff, and those resources stayed in action for more than 24 hours. The PMSA said this showed a high level of preparedness on the company's part. The company also answered a request from CPHGC for help clearing the affected area, working beyond its own operational zone.
The agency praised the professionalism and teamwork of the response unit and described its work as valuable for environmental protection and maritime safety. No figure was given for the quantity of oil released, and no estimate of environmental harm was provided. The episode also points to the need for adequate spill response capacity at offshore petroleum installations exposed to heavy shipping traffic.
