BYD to rely on imports initially, Hubco says

Dawn reported that Hub Power Company expects BYD’s first vehicles to be made using imported materials and parts, with local sourcing increasing progressively. At an October 20 corporate briefing, management described a long-term goal of producing up to 80 per cent of the vehicle locally, which it said could improve costs and reduce dependence on imports.

Topline Securities expects the BYD plant to begin operating within 4-5 weeks, by mid-December, with management aiming for monthly sales of about 1,000-1,500 vehicles as output builds. BYD intends to add models in stages, while Lucky Cement told analysts that Chinese CBU vehicles are intensifying EV competition; it targets local EV production from the first quarter of calendar year 2027, with output and choices expanding over later quarters.
