LPG prices reach Rs750 per kg in KP amid nationwide shortage

LPG has climbed to Rs750 per kg in some parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Rs600 in Peshawar, while cylinder prices have crossed Rs10,000, Profit by Pakistan Today reported. These rates are well above OGRA’s notified price of Rs279.34 per kg for the current month, with buyers in several markets paying Rs550 to Rs600 per kg.

The shortage has worsened over the past five to six days as supplies declined following the Taftan border closure, which officials have linked to tensions between Iran and the United States. Pakistan imports about 70% of its LPG requirements, and the disruption has pushed prices higher in several areas, particularly northern KP.

OGRA has not yet launched its planned action against companies and retailers accused of profiteering, with authorities concerned that enforcement could trigger strikes and further affect supplies. The regulator said the border closure had created supply difficulties and that it was working to address them; households in Punjab and KP are also contending with inadequate natural gas supplies.
