South African rand steady with local economic data, Fed decision in focus
Business Recorder • • 1 min read

The South African rand was little changed against the US dollar in early Monday trading, at 16.6125, Business Recorder reported. Investors were looking ahead to South African economic releases and the US Federal Reserve’s policy meeting on October 28.
Upcoming South African figures include money supply, private-sector credit, the trade and budget balances, and producer inflation for September. Traders generally expect the Fed to keep rates unchanged this week, while the market-implied chance of a December increase stands at 75%, according to CME’s FedWatch Tool. South Africa’s 2035 government bond was also steady, with its yield at 8.635%.
The report said the rand, like other currencies sensitive to risk appetite, responds to international developments, especially US monetary policy, as well as domestic data. The currency and bond movements therefore offer a snapshot of how investors are positioning ahead of those releases and the Fed decision.
