Yen slips ahead of central bank bonanza, dollar firms on tech rebound

The yen weakened 0.16% to 157.73 per dollar on Tuesday, while the dollar index stayed near a one-week peak at 102.04. Business Recorder reported that renewed appetite for risk after a technology-led Wall Street rebound supported the US currency, while the euro fell to $1.1165.

Currency markets are also watching a crowded schedule of central bank decisions. The Bank of Japan is expected to leave its 1.25% rate unchanged this week, although September service-sector inflation increased 3.7% from a year earlier; the Federal Reserve and European Central Bank are also expected to hold rates, while New Zealand and Canada are forecast to raise them. French fiscal concerns weighed on the euro, and the Brazilian real steadied after falling sharply following the presidential election.
