The panel’s report will use verified data and stakeholder recommendations to establish a sector baseline, identify value-chain constraints and propose steps on production, processing and export competitiveness. Its remit includes expanding shrimp farming and improving value addition and exports.
The panel approved seven technical working groups and a projection and costing unit, assigning institutions to produce 14 reports and export projections. It also agreed on an initial 14-day action plan and a shared method for validating data, setting priorities, developing reform proposals and tracking progress.
Provincial fisheries officials and federal agencies attended the meeting. Sindh’s livestock and fisheries secretary said a feasibility study was being prepared for a 3,500-acre shrimp farm in the province. Punjab’s aquaculture and fisheries secretary said the province was working to expand shrimp farming and establish hatcheries, while identifying an effective value chain as a challenge.
