The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and Iqra University have started a two-month investment challenge for women, Mettis Global reported on October 28. The programme, called “Empowered Women Ethical Investments”, is open to female students, faculty and staff at universities across Pakistan. SECP Commissioner Imtiaz Haider said stronger financial knowledge and sound decision-making can support greater participation by women in finance.
The initiative is intended to build investment capabilities through hands-on experience and financial education. SECP said women represented 59% of borrowers at non-banking finance companies and 82% of microfinance borrowers as of June 30, 2026. During fiscal year 2025-26, women received Rs236.2 billion in loans through non-banking microfinance; the regulator also cited approval of the “Khud Mukhtar Khatoon” digital financing product and easier account opening as steps to expand access.
