SIFC finalises 38 projects targeting $40 billion investment across key sectors, Senate panel told

The Special Investment Facilitation Council has prepared a portfolio of about 38 projects with an estimated $40 billion in potential investment, officials told a Senate committee on Thursday, Profit by Pakistan Today reported. The proposed work spans areas including mining, transport, energy, technology, healthcare and food security, while officials also described efforts to attract investors from China, Qatar and Kuwait.

Committee members heard that five refineries had signed implementation agreements under the approved Brownfield Refinery Policy, with proposed spending of roughly $6 billion. SIFC says it is working to ease approvals, visa arrangements and investor services, but officials cautioned that regional disruption makes dependable investment totals difficult to establish. Senators also pressed for simpler procedures and raised concerns about electricity and financing costs, tax notices, repatriation limits and competition from smuggled goods.
