FBR receives record 7.5 million tax returns as tax bars seek deadline extension
Profit by Pakistan Today • • 1 min read

The Federal Board of Revenue had received 7.5 million income tax returns by October 30, 2026, up from 5.7 million at the same point last year, Profit by Pakistan Today reported. The Pakistan Tax Bar Association and Lahore Tax Bar Association have asked for more time to file Tax Year 2026 returns, but FBR sources say no further extension is planned and late filers will face penalties.
The Pakistan Tax Bar Association requested a further 34 days in a letter to FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial. It said the filing notice came on September 2, while two earlier 15-day extensions did not make up for the time lost; the Lahore association separately called for the full statutory 90-day filing window. The tax bar also cited Rs85 billion collected from 7.3 million returns filed by October 29, against Rs88.5 billion in the corresponding period last year, and argued that extra time could help raise collections.
