Karachi Port Trust (KPT) processed two bulk ships carrying a combined 101,000 tonnes of imports, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said on Sunday. MV ZHONG CHANG 538 brought 50,000 tonnes of diammonium phosphate fertiliser, while MV GOKOVA M carried 51,000 tonnes of wheat; both were berthed at Karachi Gateway Terminal Multipurpose.
KPT data showed that 48,525 tonnes of the DAP cargo had been unloaded, with 5,481 tonnes discharged in the preceding 24 hours. More than 7,200 tonnes of wheat had also been discharged, and work on that vessel continued. The minister said efficient handling of agricultural inputs and food imports supports farm production and food security, while KPT Chairman Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed said the ships received priority berthing under government directions.
