Pakistan has taken the lead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Interbank Consortium for 2026-27, the Ministry of Finance said on Monday. HBL Chairman Sultan Ali Allana has assumed the consortium’s top role for the same period. Pakistan is also chairing the wider SCO during 2026-27, bringing the two responsibilities together.
The ministry said the consortium provides a forum for financial cooperation among member states, with aims that include supporting regional trade and investment and exploring ways to develop cross-border projects. It also said Pakistan would promote economic partnerships, trade and investment across the group. Pakistan is due to host the next SCO Council of Heads of State meeting, after taking over the organisation’s chairmanship in September.
