Banks to stay open till 10pm today for taxpayers
Mettis Global • • 1 min read

According to Mettis Global, commercial bank counters will operate until 10:00pm on September 30, 2026, giving taxpayers a chance to settle government duties and taxes over the counter. The extension was requested by the Federal Board of Revenue, which wants people to clear outstanding dues before the filing and payment window closes. Because branches normally close during business hours, the later closing time aims to cut the risk of delays.
FBR sources say anyone who misses the September 30 filing deadline will be treated as a non-filer from October 1 and face higher penalties. The penalty for individuals rises to as much as Rs25,000 from Rs1,000, while associations of persons face Rs50,000 instead of Rs10,000 and companies Rs100,000 instead of Rs20,000. Asan Tax Scheme filers face graduated charges of Rs10,000 in the first month after the deadline, Rs25,000 in the second and Rs50,000 in the third.
FBR sources added that the September 30 deadline also covers businesses required to finish sales tax and income tax registration. The authority is urging individuals and companies to complete registration, filing and payment before the cutoff, as part of broader efforts to raise compliance and widen the formal tax base. Taxpayers who still owe payments can use the extended bank hours on September 30 before higher penalties apply from October 1.
