Pakistan’s federal cabinet has approved 170 proposed amendments to the Companies Act, 2017, and the related bill has been sent to Parliament, Business Recorder reported. Adviser to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan said the wider reform drive aims to remove 70-75 percent of unnecessary or overlapping regulations. He said work on the overall review was about 60-70 percent complete.
The government is also reviewing rules in sectors including dairy, maritime, beverages, oil refining, pharmaceuticals and restaurants. Proposed measures include simpler company registration, a more consistent inspection system and a digital, single-window portal to connect businesses with authorities. Officials say these steps are intended to cut compliance costs and make business procedures more predictable, while retaining essential safeguards. The cabinet’s approval is not final enactment: the bill is now before Parliament.
