Govt focusing on reforms in FBR, Senate told

The federal government has removed Super Tax for exporters and businesses earning up to Rs500 million a year, while the rate for firms above that threshold has fallen from 10 to eight percent, Business Recorder reported. State Minister for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani told the Senate that any further reduction would depend on available fiscal space.

Kayani said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is prioritising reforms at the Federal Board of Revenue, particularly Pakistan Customs, through anti-corruption measures and digital systems. A faceless customs assessment process has been introduced, while complaint records showed penalties in 45 of 114 Pakistan Customs cases and nine of 113 Inland Revenue cases; 22 and 33 cases, respectively, remain under investigation.
