SNGPL may extend term of MD

Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited’s board may keep Managing Director Amer Tufail in the post until his successor is appointed, Business Recorder reported. Tufail is due to retire in January 2027 after completing a three-year term, while the company is seeking a recruitment agency to identify a new MD/CEO. Interested firms have until November 3, 2026, to submit their proposals.

Under the framework described in the report, SNGPL’s board can appoint the company’s MD or CEO without federal cabinet approval. The government is also pursuing plans to split SNGPL and SSGCL into separate transmission and distribution businesses, alongside a settlement process for Rs 3.6 trillion in gas circular debt. SNGPL’s own circular debt is estimated at Rs 545 billion, which the report attributes to past revenue shortfalls and delayed consumer price increases.
