The Express Tribune • • 1 min read

Pakistan’s Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) was 11.32% higher than a year earlier in the week ended October 29, 2026, although it edged down 0.35% from the prior week. The Express Tribune, citing Pakistan Bureau of Statistics data, reported the index at 373.51, compared with 374.84 a week earlier and 335.53 in the same week last year.
Energy and food prices showed sharply different movements: LPG rose 106.86% year-on-year, while diesel and petrol climbed 45.13% and 43.61%, respectively. Tomatoes jumped 34.91% week-on-week, but electricity charges for Q1 fell 3.92%; across the 51 items tracked, 15 increased, 12 decreased and 24 were unchanged.
The highest-income quintile recorded annual SPI inflation of 12.13%, against 8.07% for the lowest-income group. September CPI inflation was 10.3%, above the Planning Commission’s projection, with higher electricity and fuel costs offsetting slower food-price growth.
