Sindh growers demand Rs650 per maund sugarcane price, announce protest on November 4

Sindh sugarcane growers are seeking a support price of Rs650 per maund and an earlier start to crushing, Profit by Pakistan Today reported. The Sindh Abadgar Ittehad said delayed price announcements and crushing have hurt farmers, as cane left standing after harvest can lose weight in colder weather and reduce growers’ income.

The growers’ group plans to march in Karachi on November 4, starting at the Karachi Press Club and ending at the Chief Minister’s House. At a meeting in Hyderabad, its president, Nawab Zubair Talpur, also opposed a reported wheat price of Rs4,500 per maund, calling instead for Rs5,000, and raised concerns about paddy selling for Rs2,600 per maund in upper Sindh.
